They say that behind every great man is a woman. Behind me in this photo is my wonderful husband, whose encouragement, support and companionship are the foundation of my life. Beside me are my three sons, who are my greatest creation and source of joy. I have always sought creative outlets and when my sons were small I needed something that I could stop and start easily, pick up and take with me, that wasn't a hazardous attraction. A friend introduced me to beadwork and I've never looked back.
Like life, my beadwork continues to evolve and be influenced by the people and events around me. I regularly take classes to learn new techniques, from fusing glass to soldering metal. Sometimes these become part of my work, but even if they don't, they inspire me to work and think in new ways. I also teach beadwork, mostly to fifth graders, whose enthusiasm and perspective are energizing.
Since 1996 I have been a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen, the nation's oldest professional craft organization. I am also a juror and member of the League standards committee. Working and meeting with craftsmen at the top of their fields is a challenge and inspiration. In addition, I am a member of the NH Chapter of The Women's Caucus for Art. Exhibiting with other women artists challenges me to think beyond the ordinary and expand my vision.
